The Literary Heroine Blog Party {Hosted at Maiden's Musings}

~ The Questions ~
Compiled by Miss Kellie & Miss Natasha
  • What, to you, forms the essence of a true heroine?
  • The essence of a true heroine includes the character qualities of kindness and gentleness, but also that of wit and charm. Her manner and speech should be pleasant and clever, but her lifestyle can be related by the readers. She firmly stands for what she believes and helps her friend by her kind words and ways. Of course, she is not perfect, yet she strives wholeheartedly to be more like Christ everyday.
  • Share (up to) four heroines of literature that you most admire and relate to.
  • Lovely, Georgianna Darcy in Pride and Prejudice; I so much admire her quiet, meek spirit.

  • Patient Amy Dorrit {newer version}; she is a very good picture of a humble, patient servant even when others mistreated her.
  • Dear Jane Bennett; she was very optimistic in any situation at hand and always saw the good qualities in people good and bad alike.

  • And finally, Eleanor Dashwood for she is sensible {hence Sense and Sensibility:)}, caring and considerate, putting other's feelings before her own.

  • Five of your favorite historical novels?
  • The Apothecary's Daughter by Julie Klassen

  • In the Shadow of the Sun King by Golden Keys Parson

  • Dr. Oma by Ethel Herr

  • A Cold Cup of Water by Christina Farenhorst

  • The Lacemaker and the Princess by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley
  • Out of those five books who is your favorite character and why?
  • Miss Lillian Haswell of The Apothecary's Daughter of course! Why? She is an amazing young woman, her emotions relatable to the reader, courageous, bold, caring, but the plot of the book is what captures the audiences attention.
  • If you were to plan out your dream vacation, where would you travel to - and what would you plan to do there?
  • Italy, England, Germany, Austria or France! Many ask if I would like to venture to China~the place of my birth~but "take me to Europe" I say!:)
  •  In Italy, I would go from the stunning architecture of the Romans, to the quiet villas of Tuscany, and the pleasant cobblestone streets of the seaside.
  • In England, I would walk down the same streets that Miss Austen walked as well as her characters and the streets she names in her novels in my era outfits. {Visit this blog for a lovely tour of England:)}
  • In France, my journey would take me from the heights of the Eiffel Tower, to the gilded gates of Versailles and it's crystal mirrored halls, to the stone cottages of the countryside surrounded with budding lavender.
  • In Austria, I would love to visit the palaces of the North as well as Vienna where Mozart walked.
  • In Germany, I would visit a quaint little village nestled in the mountains and see how violins are made.
  • What is your favorite time period and culture to read about?
  • My favorite time periods to read about include: the Regency era, the Victorian era, the French Revolution, and so much more! I also enjoy reading about any European country especially that of France, England, Italy, Germany, and most of Europe. And of course America:)
  • You have been invited to perform at the local charity concert.  Singing, comedy, recitation - what is your act comprised of?
  • How lovely! It is always good to give back to people. Oh, no, singing is not my most complimentary talent. I know music, but a melodious voice I was not gifted with. I would be very much better be witty and make a person laugh or recite a poem with emphasis and emotion than to sing. Or perhaps, entertain with a particular instrument of some sort....
  • If you were to attend a party where each guest was to portray a heroine of literature, who would you select to represent?
  • Oh, perhaps, Emma Woodhouse. I do admire her qualities in the least, yet for the night would it not be entertaining to be rich, handsome, and witty?
    • What are your sentiments on the subject of chocolate?
    • Oh, dear Margery and Lady Edith! I knew you simply could not resist to involve the subject of chocolate into this some way or another!:) How do I put my sentiments of chocolate into one post? *sigh* I simply adore chocolate; and as a certain female character of one of my favorite Television series would say,
    • "Chocolate is my one weakness" {out of many of course:)}
    • Favorite author(s)?
    • Julie Klassen

    • Jane Austen

    • Golden Keys Parson
    • Sarah Malley
    • Carolyn Meyer
    • And many more! I hope to find at least a few more authors that I will whole-heartedly fall in love with their works.
    • As a small, imaginative, red-haired damsel might query; would you rather be divinely beautiful, dazzlingly clever, or angelically good?  Why?
    • I would be quite shallow indeed if I chose to be divinely beautiful. Beauty I would indeed always like to have, but to be divinely beautiful may not permit you to be clever but in fact completely uneducated and ill-bred.
    • However, to be dazzlingly clever is what I choose, for it should be more exciting an adventure, and one could over time, let her cleverness used to her advantage. Sometimes I feel quite rambunctious and flighty in my behavior, making me childish and immature; therefore, being clever, witty, humorous, always knowing the correct words to say at the correct timing would be very nice to have in my possession.
    • In which century were most of the books you read written?
    • In which century was the book itself written or when was the novel set? Usually, the time era that it was set in was 1700's to early 1900's if that is what you mean. However, most of the novels I read were written in the 21st century.
    • In your opinion, the ultimate hero in literature is…
    • Mr. Knightly!
    • Describe your ideal dwelling place.
    • A quaint, little cottage nestled in a heavily wooded glen, complete with full herb garden and little white picket fence; chickens freely roaming the garden, a fountain amongst the blooming roses...
    • A lovely estate with finely trimmed, English gardens with plenty of space for garden parties and dancing!
    • A sweet little villa in the hills of Tuscany wineries complete with cobblestone courtyard!
    • Have you ever wanted to change a character’s name?
    • Mmm...sometimes just for the mere sound of a character's name.:)
    •  In your opinion, the most dastardly villain of all literature is...
    • Oh, that is hard to say. Certainly not one of Jane Austen's characters, but instead, Mr. Charles Dickens is a master of creating horrid villains.
    • Three favorite Non-fiction books?
    • John Gerard's Complete Herbal

    • Beautiful Girlhood
    {with Companion Guide}
    •  Before You Meet Prince Charming
    • Your duties met for the day, how would you choose to spend a carefree summer afternoon?
    • In the sunshine of course, perhaps in my vegetable garden or snipping my lavender. Or perhaps, enjoying a relaxing spa treatment...
    • Create a verbal sketch of your dream hat - in such a way as will best portray your true character.
    • Hmmmm....I am a very outgoing character with old-fashion, sophisticated taste therefore, it would be a brimmed, straw bonnet, covered in lavender silk, with tiny white pearls sewed into the ruffles. It would look something like this:

    • Adding of course, a few feathers or plums and satin ribbons!:)
    • Share the most significant event(s) that have marked your life in the past year.
    • Well, the purchasing of my camera...Nikon D3100 and blogging. I have met so many lovely, Christ-filled ladies!
    • Share the Bible passage(s) that have been most inspiring to you recently.
    • Psalms 27:4~One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all of the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in His temple.
    • And lastly, as I am a rather businesslike hostess, may I ask you your views regarding those adorable little items - namely pin back and mirror back buttons?  1). Where would you choose to display a button badge to best showcase your unique style?  2). What image and/or sentiment would most make you smile were it inscribed on your very own compact mirror?
    • Oh, I absolutely adore your pins, Lady Margery, and would love to win one!:)
    • I would probably showcase them on my cloth {close to a olive coloured, soft burlap} messenger-type purse flap.
    • Either something like "Simply Old-Fashioned" with a favorite Jane Austen heroine character upon it...anything that you create shall be quite special, indeed!
    Thank you so much, dear Margery, for hosting this! What a delightful time I have had!

    Miss Margery is also hosting a lovely giveaway along with her blog party giving away three different prizes:
